 2014 Volkswagen Golf Carbon GTi

Volkswagen is reportedly developing a lightweight variant of the Golf GTI. The seventh Generation Volkswagen Golf is dubbed as in Carbon GTI.

It was a challenging mission and a monumental commitment to costly materials, and now Volkswagen intends to curb the carbon fiber development costs by spreading the use of the lightweight construction among the Volkswagen Golf hybrid and Golf electric vehicle as well. And As its name suggests, the Carbon GTI will be engineered to extensively feature carbon fiber components, namely on the roof and the hood, It will be Combined with the use of aluminum.

Well the future Carbon GTI promises to shed off as much as 200 kg, or 411 lbs., from the standard GTI model.

The Power will be distributed, featuring a 2.0 liter turbocharged powerplant producing 222-hp. However, thanks to its new weight-loss program, the Carbon GTI is expected to accelerate from 0-to-60mph in well under six seconds.

Now to handle the extra power, the Carbon GTI will use a VAQ front differential, an electronically controlled clutch-type unit similar to the Haldex all-wheel-drive setup in the Golf R. Like other new Volkswagen Golf hatchbacks, the Carbon GTI will use a variable-rate steering rack to improve performance during cornering.

Sources say that the roof is a sandwich of two layers of carbonfibre over a thin steel core, which allows the roof to be welded into the body on a standard production line. And the alloy head, windscreen surround and complete rear floor, right from under the rear seats to the rear bumper, will be bonded to the steel under structure.

It is also believed that this same technique would also be present in the next generation of Audi’s MLB platform for longitudinal-engined models.

Well as of now no official Details about the pricing or any other detailed information is available, but yes we do know that,
The new Golf Carbon GTI will be launched in 2014 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Volkswagen Golf and will be built in limited edition series.
