What Should the next Rotary powered sportscar from mazda look and feel like?
Tired of no news about the next rotary sports car? Lets make a wish list for Mazda to read, yes?
Mazda should pay homage to the 1st gen rx7 and build a super light compact sports coupe. If I could Chip Foose the 1st gen, it'd look Taiki inspired.
A no frills basic aproach like the Miata. The target weight should be 2-25000lbs. No traction control or electronic suspension, just a strong race proven chassis and a basic cockpit with a view to saving weight. The Nissan GTR, for example, has turbo(s) and alot of electronic technology and weighs 3000+ lbs. Mazda should do the opposite and keep it simple.
Wheel Horse Power(whp) should come from a 2 rotor 350-400 N/A(non turbo) to compete with the Camaro and Mustang. It should have a haltech-like ECU that allows you to boost performance or add a turbo.
Mazda aims to increase Torque @ all revs with the 16x. Who knows what that statement could turn out to mean. The current Renesis' low end torque from 2-4k rpms isn't great. So, I think my proposed N/A's torque numbers is up to the eye of the beholder. Rotaries, up until now have poor low end torque with out a turbo.
Pricing for this N/A should be like the Rx8's, @ $26-28k for a standard option car with add-on options that you pay more for. I can't think of any reason why a small car with alot of power and no frills would cost 40-50k. Especially if for $50,000(US), I can buy a new Mustang or Camaro for that price with good power numbers. I could buy a used 07-08 non ZR1 Vette. Look at the new Hyundai Genesis coupe's price. Less than 50k. Need I say more? If $26,000(US) was the price. We'd all be on a waiting list to get ours. Like gas, if you inflate the price, people look for alternatives.
For the "Rich" out there. There should be a Furai inspired RX? 3rotor twin turbo supercar. It should have 550-700whp with or without all of the electronic(t.c.s. and e.suspension). Oh, and can spank the ZR1.
What's wrong with a little wishful thinking, huh?
