Vroom for improvement considering GT5's 800 cars. But still, grrr! Image: Turn 10.

With main genre rival Gran Turismo 5 not expected to screech onto the PlayStation 3 before the spring of 2010, videogame developer Turn 10 is shifting into top gear in order to send anticipation for the upcoming Xbox 360 racer Forza 3 into absolute overdrive.

Specifically, in an attempt to focus the pre-release spotlight on Forza 3 and eclipse any remaining glitz surrounding EA’s recently released (and surprisingly good) Need for Speed: Shift, Turn 10 has completely detailed the more than 400 real-world cars that will be crammed into the game.

While falling some way short of the mammoth 800 cars expected to populate Gran Turismo 5, the bulging Forza 3 includes speedy vehicles plucked from the showrooms of 50 of the world’s leading car manufacturers.

Offering a little something for every kind of race fan, Forza 3’s line-up ranges from relatively modest production cars such as the Fiat 500 Abarth SS, Mini Cooper S and Ford Fiesta Zetec S, through to savage and growling supercars like the Lamborghini Reventon, Bugatti Veyron 16.4, Koenigsegg CCGT, and Pagani Zonda C12.

Of course, we’re not going to list all the available cars here, but, if you want to peruse them at your leisure, you can simply visit the official Forza Motorsport 3 Car List posted on Turn 10’s Web site.

Beyond puffing its chest out with regard to the sexy rides Forza 3 will deliver when it skids onto retail shelves this coming October 27, Turn 10 has also moved to tempt prospective consumers by announcing free downloadable content (DLC) for any Xbox 360 owners who buy the game on its opening day of release.

Those willing to splash the cash to bring Forza 3 to their Xbox 360 will receive download access to the Motorsports Legends Car Pack, which includes 10 sassy classic rides such as the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage, the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA, and the iconic 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.

Early adopters will also be granted download access to two bonus racetracks. First up is the Benchmark High Speed Racing ring, which has been constructed on an abandoned airfield and includes a large oval track and an eight-lane drag strip. Then there’s the Sidewinder Proving Grounds, which makes a welcome return from existing versions of the Forza series.
