Trident, the British sports car makers displayed their Iceni Grand Tourer at Salon Prive 2012 held at West London's Syon Park earlier last month. Iceni was seen as a sports car par excellence. It displayed outstanding performance and beauty while statistics are due to Trident's newly patented Torque Multiplication technology.

Iceni Grand Tourer is priced at £75,000 and is built to order at company plant in Norfolk. The vehicle has acceleration speed from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 200 mph. It possesses a mid mounted 6.6 liter turbo diesel engine based on the Torque Multiplication Technology and runs on bio diesel, palm oil and linseed oil capable of 430 bhp and 950 lb/ft torque at below 3250 rpm, while an upgrade is also possible to 660 bhp and 1050 lb/ft torque.

Trident Iceni Grand Tourer's engine runs at 980 revs when travelling at a constant speed of 70 mph and can average fuel economy at 57.4 mpg UK (70 mpg US) while covering a range of 2000 miles (3,200 kms) on a single tank of fuel. The Trident Iceni gets its rather unusual name from an ancient tribe that once inhabited Norfolk, England.

Auto News Release

The Trident Iceni is the culmination of a small team's dream to produce a beautiful Grand Tourer with unique features and innovations.

Dedication, enthusiasm and belief has driven the Norfolk based company to pursue their innovation called Torque Multiplication, allowing compatibility to the new Euro 6 emissions due in 2014 ( for CO2 and NOx).

This innovation further investigates how the internal combustion engine could be exploited to be more green whilst maintaining a performance driven philosophy.

To make the most of Torque Multiplication we decided to use a mid front mounted 6.6 Litre turbo diesel engine complete with common rail and direct injection, 4 valves per cylinder and a variable vane turbo. This basic engine using our own engine control module (ECU) produces *430 bhp and a staggering 950 lbs ft of torque at under 3250 rpm. (* optional 660 bhp and 1050 lbs ft of torque). However, at a constant 70 mph the engine will be turning over at a modest 980 rpm, producing 700lbs ft of torque.

To handle this power Trident has had to design and manufacture its own gearbox and differential(trans-axle). The gear box is a fluid drive to 1 mph then locks up to manual, with six gears as standard, complete with optional paddle shift making the Iceni a two pedal car. The differential has a 10" crown wheel and pinion with a geared True track limited slip function. The standard car is geared to 200 mph, but at a constant 70 mph, over 68 mpg is achievable with a range of 2000 on a single tank full.

The chassis is the one component we are most proud of, formed from a special grade of stainless steel (4003). Although this choice of material is unconventional, it gives us an extremely strong structure with class leading torsional rigidity and a life time guarantee (100 years). With its central longitudinal spine ( roll over bar) and strategically positioned folds and shapes within the chassis, we have achieved unsurpassed driver and passenger protection against frontal and rear impact, together with our twin baffled pontoon (50mm) outriggers, affording even greater side impact protection.

The Trident Iceni carries over 39 specially designed and made parts from wheels, seats, air vents instruments, door pulls and handles, oculight roof panels, lights, glass, grills and vents, gearbox and differential etc etc.
