Recent reports from Autocar have revealed Jaguar is thinking of incorporating a new SUV into its lineup. Punters say if there were to be a new off-road Jaguar, it could be based on the upcoming Range Rover Evoque.
According to Jaguar boss, Adrian Hallmark, the company’s future plans will include an SUV of some sort. He recently told Autocar,
“We need a crossover and we need to stop being a saloon-based company.”
He also said Jaguar would be releasing an XF wagon in the near future. A wagon would certainly help the brand provide more competitive packages to rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW, which both offer a wagon in the form of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series.
But an SUV? What happened to the tradition of large luxury sedans from Jag? According to Hallmark, he wants to change traditions within the company and wants a focus on ‘light weight’ to be apart of the company’s DNA of the future.
The focus on being light could mean the next generation XK and XF sports cars will be made predominately of aluminium.
