MUMBAI: There is a good news for the sports car fans as Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL), the subsidiary company of Japnese car maker, launched its iconic and affordable sports car Nisaan 370Z in India.

The two variants of the car are prices at Rs 53.5-lakh and 54.5-lakh respectively. The sports car was launched by Indian Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan at the Juhu Flying Club - where he displayed his skills on the wheels of a red-coloured Nissan.

The company has plans to introduce nine cars by 2012 of which four will be imported from Japan while it proposes to manufacture the remaining. “We have plans to launch 9 models in India by 2012, of which we will import four models from Japan including 370Z. Rest five models we plan to produce at our Chennai plant in India,” Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD an CEO, NMIPL told media conference after the launch of the car.

The company has already imported 370Z, GT Pack and GT Ultimate, with prices varying by equipment and functions.

Nissan currently sells X-Trail and Murano SUV in India and the new Sports 370Z will be imported as a completely built unit in India. The car will be built on Nissan FM platform which is same as 350Z. However, the wheelbase may be shortened by five inches for better handling. The engine is from Renault and the car was designed in America by an Indian. The current international model is powered by 3.7L V6 engine delivering a power of 332bhp @ 70000rpm and 375NM of torque @ 5200rpm making it a highly competent sports coupe.

The 370Z variant, also referred to as the entry level version of the range, will be priced between Rs 53 – 54 lakhs and has been designed as an 'everyday sports car'. It includes Intelligent Key, engine stop/start button, power windows with one-touch auto up/down feature, power door locks with auto-lock, power adjustable seats, climate controlled air-conditioning, 12 volt power outlets, automatic xenon headlamps, curtain airbag, alarm, audio with auxiliary input.

The Nissan 370Z 6-speed M/T with Synchro Rev Match is priced at Rs 53.50 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) and Nissan 370Z 7-speed A/T with Manual Shift Mode is priced at Rs 54.50 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)
