With the new next generation revealed by BMW those in the enthusiast world are eagerly awaiting the full M version of the new BMW 5 Series.

By the full M version we mean the M5 with M engine, M aerodynamics, and M interior just to name a few.

Our spy from Europe has sent us these hot new spy shots of what appears to be the prototype version of the next generation BMW M5.

What makes us think it is the M5?

Looking at the profile of the vehicle it appears that this car has upgraded brakes which one would expect on a BMW M5. The M5 needs added stopping power to help bring the car to a stop.

Additionally viewing the rear of the car one can see the four tail pipe exhaust which is a trademark for vehicles such as the BMW M5 and BMW M3.

What is under the hood?

The current generation has an immensely powerful V10 underneath the bonnet; the 2011 BMW M5 though is rumored to have a twin turbo V8. This would be one similar to the one found in the new X5 M and X6 M but of course be modified for more power to satisfy the M enthusiasts.

Site Bimmerfile.com speculates that the new M5 could also feature KERS power boost technology. This is F1 style technology that captures waisted energy from braking and turns it into power meaning even more oomph for the M car. KERS power boost technology is not a confirmed technology for the car but something like this could make way into the revolutionary next generation M5.

When is the M5 coming?

The 2011 BMW M5 is slated for release sometime in 2011.

What other cars does the M5 compete with?

The BMW M5 competes with the Jaguar XF-R, Audi RS6, and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
