BMW are hoping the new double-decker diffuser will lead to a change in their fortunes at next weekend's Turkish Grand Prix.

After being tipped as one of the teams to watch this season, BMW struggled to put in any noteworthy performances in the opening six races of the season.

Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica once again endured a miserable weekend in Monaco with the German finishing 11th and Kubica retiring on lap 28 due to problems with his brakes.

Although extremely disappointed with their results so far, team boss Mario Theissen is confident they will hit back in Turkey, where they will run with a new development package and the double-decker diffuser.

"After three years in which we have always achieved and even surpassed our goals, this is our first setback," Theissen told the official BMW website. "We have to put this behind us - and we will do.

"The same team gave us our first pole position and put us on the top step of the podium. As a result, everyone is ready and motivated for the fight ahead, as we strive to return to the top.

"We will now immediately analyse the shortcomings, introduce corrective measures, and significantly increase our development speed," he added. "At the next race in Istanbul in two weeks, we will line up with another new development package. We will use a multi-level diffuser for the first time in Turkey. We are convinced that this will be another step in the right direction."
