Aston Martin has unveiled a new £1m sports car at the Geneva Motor Show.

The One-77 is also a limited edition with only 77 models being made and is expected to become an instant collector's item.

The unveiling of the car in Geneva, one of Europe's most influential motor shows, was a rare piece of good news amid recent gloom in the industry.

Sales have plummeted at the firm, based in Gaydon, Warwickshire, and it shed 600 jobs in December.

The Gaydon factory is also on short time working after what the company has described as "extraordinary market conditions".

'Rapide' production
UK car sales in January were down almost a third when compared to last year.

The launch of the One-77 is expected to be followed by a whole series of new models from Aston Martin.

Management have already confirmed production of a four door model called the "Rapide" will start next year at a factory in Austria.

Meanwhile, the company will also relaunch the Lagonda marque sometime during the next four years.

A concept car showing what it might look like is also being unveiled at Geneva.

The brand, last seen on new cars in the late 1980s, is expected to compete with the likes of Bentley and Rolls Royce.
