Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo has released a new teaser video for its upcoming 4C sports car, ahead of its expected European market debut in early to mid-2012.

Revealed in concept form earlier this year, the 4C is powered by a 1.75 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 150kW.

Paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, Alfa says the 4C will rocket to 100km/h in "less than five seconds," on its way to a top speed of 250km/h.

While the 4C's power figures are well short of the 8C supercar's 331kW, the mid-engined rear-wheel-drive coupe is bound to bring its own brand of excitement.

Helping the 4C get the most out of its relatively small engine however is its ultra-lightweight construction, with extensive use of carbon-fibre and aluminium elements featured throughout.

Kerb weight is listed at 850kg for the concept, although that may change for the production version.

Most of the 4C's details have yet to be revealed, although an earlier announcement for the 4C concept describes a body that is "approximately four metres" long, riding on a wheelbase of "less than 2.4 metres."

Its styling is inspired by the 8C, although Alfa has perhaps taken a few cues from the 4C's most obvious rival (at least among casual observers) - Lotus.

With European debut timing and production plans still to be confirmed, it remains unclear when - or even if - the 4C will hit Australian roads.
