VW impresses with its new sports car
The new Volkswaghen Passat CC (Coupé Comfort) surprises with its coupé design and silhouette even though it’s a 4-door vehicle. The CC is one of the three available bodyworks for the Passat range, the other two being the Variant and Berlina. One of the main differences with the other versions lies in the fact that the CC has only four seats, thus showing a sportive style and offering a performance which is similar to that of a regular coupé.
With over 15 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is one of the most successful models in automotive history. Its design lines combine sporty dynamics with the comfort of a premium saloon car. Its elegancy can be discovered in the lines that majestically draw the front grille, the hood, and the headlights.
Apart from its stylish design lines, the Passat CC also reveals magnificent and noble details. The transition from windshields to metal was remarkably well accomplished: the absence of window frames adds to the car’s look.
In the rear part, the CC also offers a great look with its stylish lights that are incorporated to the trunk’s door. The trunk’s load capacity is of 452 litres.
The Passat CC has a length of 4,796 mm (3.1 cm longer than the standard version), 1856 mm width (+ 36mm), height 1422 mm (-50mm), and a wheelbase of 2711 mm.
The interior also commits to and follows a sportive line. With good quality plastics and soft-touch materials used throughout, materials are of a high quality like the Nappa leather upholstery or the matt chrome details. Front seats come with electric 12-way adjustment including lumbar support. To maximize the comfort; the CC includes the 2Zone electronic climate control apart from its air-conditioning.
Powered with a petrol 3.6 V6 FSI engine that delivers 300HP at 6700 rpm with a torque of 360 Nm at 3,000 rpm, the CC comes with a 6-Speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The DSG has two clutches with electronically controlled gear selection that provides fast, smooth gear changes, lively handling with unbroken acceleration, safer driving,, and improved fuel economy, even compared to a manual gearbox. The DSG dual-clutch gearbox gives you a choice of two driving programmes: normal and sport.
Volkswagen new streamlined 4-door coupé offers a permanently integrated four-wheel-drive 4-Motion system. The vehicle reaches a max speed of around 250 km/h accelerating from 0 to 100 in 5.6 seconds with an elasticity of 4.8 seconds from 80 to 120 km/h.
When it comes down to comfort and equipment, the CC certainly offers luxury levels. Front heated seats come with electric 12-way adjustment (it memorizes up to 3 positions) including lumbar support, 2Zone electronic climate control, panoramic sunroof, rain and parking sensors, automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror, and front centre armrest with 12v socket in rear.
Other examples of its exceptional features are the Press and Drive key, and the electronic parking brake with auto-hold function
The new Passat includes a manual coming/leaving home lighting function, leather trimmed steering wheel from which the driver can operate the radio, the multifunction computer, and the gearbox, and tyre pressure monitoring system. The tyres are mounted on 18" alloy wheels with 235/40 R18.
Safety is a big concern for the German automaker, and it proves it as the Passat CC includes six (front, side, head) impact airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), electronic stabilization programme (ESP), height-adjustable front three-point seat belts with tensioners, and gas discharge (Bi-Xenon) headlights among many other features.
The creator of what is now as 4-door coupés was another German car maker: Mercedes Benz with its CLS model, which inspired VW for the CC. Compared to the CLS, the Passat CC shows tremendous advantages because of its price-product-quality relation.
The Passat CC makes Volkswagen move to another level of prestige and technical sophistication. With this model VW also takes a big lead in the local market due to the lack of this kind of vehicles. In other countries, models like the Honda Accord coupé or the Renault Laguna coupé will definitely represent a challenge for the number one spot. Because of its luxurious features, engine and dynamic behaviour, the Passat CC can be ranked as an exclusive coupé.
