"Subaru has taken the wraps off of its new 2011 wide-body Impreza WRX, ahead of the upcoming 2010 New York Auto Show," says Left Lane News. "This new Impreza will sport a physically wider stance, wider wheels and tires and will come in both four and five-door variations."

The WRX is a performance-tuned variant of the Subaru Impreza, and a favorite of street and rally racers.

Autoblog comments, "Since the introduction of the third-generation Impreza, Subaru has been making incremental improvements to the rally-bred WRX, first with a significant bump in output for the 2009 MY and now the adoption of the STI's widebody design for 2011." They add, "With a 1.5 inch-wider track front and rear, the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX's stance is decidedly more aggressive, and with firmer rear subframe bushings pulled from the STI and wider 17x8-inch wheels wrapped in 235/45R17 rubber, the 2011 'Rex is assuredly stickier than its predecessor."

When a car is widened, its center of gravity drops, making it less tippy and better at hugging the road. With a wider stance, a car usually handles better, because it can be thrown into corners with confidence.

Of course, not all the changes are to the WRX's body. Its face got some work too. Jalopnik says that the WRX "also got a newer, purdier mouth."

Sounds like just the ticket to make WRX fans squeal.
