New CR-V diesel now available with auto gearbox
Honda has announced a series of revisions for its CR-V 4x4, including the introduction of a new diesel engine that will come with the option of an automatic gearbox for the first time.
Due to go on sale in January 2010, the refreshed Honda CR-V’s most significant change is under the bonnet. Replacing the current 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine is a newer 2.2 turbodiesel that debuted in the latest generation Honda Accord.
More power for CR-V diesel
With more power (148bhp instead of 138) and more torque (258lb ft versus 250), together with Euro 5 emissions regulation compliance, the CR-V should continue to successfully challenge newer 4x4s, such as the Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Tiguan, as well as its old rival, the Toyota RAV-4.
No CO2 or fuel economy figures have yet been announced, but the new diesel is available with Honda’s in-house five-speed automatic gearbox, helping it reach a new audience of potential buyers.
The CR-V’s 2.0-litre petrol engine continues as before.
Honda gets visual update
Distinguishing the revised model - although not that obviously - Honda has tweaked the CR-V’s appearance.
There are new bumpers front and rear, new alloy wheel designs and improved interior materials. Revised stereo controls are complimented by increased sound-proofing, which promises better refinement.
SE, ES and EX trim levels will be offered, all with air conditioning and alloys as standard. ES adds dual-zone climate control, cruise control, parking sensors, half-leather Alcantara seats and a USB connector, among other extra items. EX boosts this further, with full leather, sat nav, electric front seats, panoramic glass roof and xenon headlights.
Pricing details for the new Honda CR-V will follow nearer to launch.
