McLaren are in heated testing with its new P11 car and have their sights set on revitalizing the brand with another new model for the masses. It is thought that they will be aiming for the Porsche and Audi R8 market with prices coming to an affordable £80 000 according to Auto Express UK.
Dubbed the baby McLaren the car would aim to keep costs down using an aspirated 6.2-litre V8 sourced from Mercedes AMG division, and will feature the P11 rear-wheel drive chassis with a composite body and will be slightly smaller than an R8.
Power is expected to range around the 450bhp mark and will go from 0 – 60 mph in around 4 secs which will go on to reach a max speed of 195mph.Carbon ceramic brakes and a semi-automatic gearbox is said to be used and nothing is expected till 2012.
They will be looking to cash in on this particular model and hopes to produce a few thousand units in the next five years bringing Mclaren Automotive into a very competitive market. utomotive into a very competitive market.
