Tazzari Zero electric car claims 45 minute recharge
Electric car evangelists like Better Place's Shai Agassi will tell you charging times are one of the big obstacles to electrics going mainstream. Most electric cars take 6-8 hours to recharge, but today an Italian company claimed it's developing an electric car that recharges in just 45 minutes. Tazarri Group made the boast in a new teaser site for its upcoming ZERO car (pictured).
If true, the claim would mark a huge breakthrough. Even the British-made Lightning, one of the most advanced electric cars in development, only achieves its 10 minute recharge time via three-phase electric power points, which are very rare in residential homes. I'm waiting to hear clarification from Tazzari on its claim.
According to the teaser site, the ZERO will also manage a top speed of 56mph (slower than the Smart Ed, faster than the G-Wiz), a 93 mile range (good, and not far off the TH!NK City), and 0-30mph in five seconds.
The NICE Car Company, which sells the Mega City electric car in the UK, suggests it might stock the ZERO. Still, don't expect it any time soon -- NICE needs to get its already-announced MyCar, Fiat e500 and Ze-O on sale this autumn first.
