Kolkata, October 1 Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday slammed the Congress for demanding land from within the Tata Motors small car project site in Singur and said that they were conniving with the Trinamool Congress on this issue.
Following an all-party meet at Writers’ Buildings, attended by the Congress and the BJP — both Trinamool Congress and SUCI boycotted the meeting — Bhattacharjee told reporters that the Congress was speaking in the same lines as the Opposition.

“The BJP supported the resolution we had placed at the meeting but the Congress did not agree with it. They wanted land from within the project area and they want some ancillary units to be shifted. Unfortunately, they have failed to understand the integrated nature of the project. The ancillary units cannot be shifted anywhere else. This is not only the opinion of the Tatas but of the state Government too. We had consulted experts on this matter,” Bhattacharjee said. Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on October 3 for a meeting with Bhattacharjee.

The resolution said while the interest of the farmers had to be protected, the importance of the industrialisation process should also be kept in mind.
