This year, we debuted several new and updated vehicles and introduced new innovative technologies in our commitment to safety and the environment.
To satisfy those looking for excitement behind the wheel, the most anticipated vehicle to come to market arrived at select Nissan dealerships this summer - the all-new 2009 Nissan GT-R.
Revered as a performance machine, the GT-R lives up to the concept of "the everyday supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere." Its hand-built 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine produces an impressive 480 horsepower and was designed to maximize the GT-R driving experience.
Another much-anticipated vehicle to arrive at Nissan dealerships this year was the all-new 2009 Maxima - the flagship sedan of the Nissan lineup that has recaptured its place as the true "four-door sports car." The Maxima was reborn when the designers focused on concepts of addictive performance, powerful, striking design and commanding presence.
The Maxima has more power and torque than previous generations, but even better fuel efficiency - and comes equipped with a revised Xtronic CVT which is tuned specifically for the vehicle's sporty driving character. The "super cockpit" interior is spacious and comfortable, while the aggressive exterior look is inspired by the GT-R style front end.
The award-winning Nissan Rogue, Versa and Sentra, have continued to be our bestsellers, satisfying demand for more fuel-efficient and space-efficient vehicles that offer Nissan style and performance at an attractive price.
We're thrilled with what we offer from our Infiniti lineup. The all-new, coupe-inspired Infiniti EX35 crossover debuted this spring and was met with great enthusiasm by customers for its exceptional combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems.
The EX35 features the world production-car debut of the advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which utilizes four small cameras to give the driver a top-down view of the outside of the vehicle while parking and is also the first to feature Scratch Shield, a special "self-healing" clear-coat paint.
We also introduced a completely re-engineered FX sport-utility model this spring. Along with improvements in performance and fuel efficiency, the FX features a new Distance Control Assist system which provides audible and tactile feedback to ensure a safe distance is maintained behind other vehicles.
Also new on the Infiniti side, this month the 2009 G Coupe and Sedan will be available at dealers nationwide. The G Coupe adds a new AWD model with an advanced Attesa-Ets all-wheel-drive system. Additionally, the high-performance G Sedan received a new 3.7-litre V-VEL engine with more power and 10 per cent greater fuel efficiency, and is now designated the Infiniti G37 Sedan. All Gs now come with a new seven-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport (DS) Mode and Downshift Rev Matching.

In addition to the new technologies designed for driver safety and vehicle performance, this year has been unprecedented for Nissan in the number of green advancements we've made on the technology front.
Our Nissan Green Program 2010 environmental action plan is often at the forefront of our research as we continue to find innovative ways to fulfill our goal of a sustainable mobile society.
In line with our commitment of zero-emission vehicle leadership, in early August we unveiled all-electric (EV) and original hybrid electric (HEV) prototype vehicles which both utilize lithium-ion batteries.
The front-wheel-drive EV concept uses a newly developed 80-kilowatt motor while the original HEV delivers two breakthrough technologies, including Nissan's first high-performance, rear-wheel-drive hybrid system.
The second innovation - the parallel-powertrain hybrid system - is designed to conserve energy utilization and improve fuel efficiency.
Recently, we also unveiled the world's first ECO Pedal designed to help consumers drive their vehicles more fuel-efficiently. The system works by detecting pressure on the accelerator; when excess pressure is applied, a counter push-back tells the driver to ease up to conserve fuel.
This year continues to challenge and excite us at Nissan Canada and we see that momentum continuing into 2009.
Our vehicle lineup will continue to reflect the needs and wants of our customers, from the Nissan GT-R supercar to the fuel efficient compact Nissan Versa - or, on the Infiniti side, with the new more powerful and fuel-efficient G series.
We are truly dedicated to providing our customers with extensive choices and quality products to meet a variety of needs and budgets.
I am also confident that our customers will further appreciate our commitment to evolving our environmental offerings and investing in the new technologies to make our vehicles as safe and environmentally sound as possible.
After all, while the need for people to get from Point A to Point B won't change, the desire to do so efficiently and responsibly will - and already has.
