The old model has been around for 12 years and was well past time for replacement – good though it still is.
True to car makers now sharing platforms so often to save costs, it’s rumoured to be based on the new Fiat 500 floorpan and I think you’ll agree it’s a cracking-looking car.
It looks pretty small inside but with a funky look that should appeal to many buyers.
No technical details have yet been released, but expect up-dated versions of the present Fiesta engine in 1.25 and 1.4 petrol and 1.3 or 1.4 diesel.
Prices are likely to start at about £8,000 and it goes on sale in November after a first showing at the Paris Motor Show in October.
It could also be featured in the upcoming Bond movie Quantum of Solace at around the same time.
Interior
Inside there is lots of aluminium-look highlighting with a chunky steering wheel and hip hugging seats.
Trim levels should be further upmarket than those available now if recent Ford cars are anything to go by.
