Continental Automotive Components India, a part of German automotive electronic supplier, Continent AG, shall supply fuel sensors for Tata Nano. It shall manufacture components for cars, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers.

“The details are being finalised; we believe small cars, affordable and with full functionality, will drive the market in the years ahead,” said Markus Distelhoff, Managing Director of Continental-India in Bangalore on the occasion of opening of its Rs. 220 crores electronics component plant and research development centre on Monday in the city.

The company had made its foray in 1958 in India with its Yenkay brand of car instruments. It shall also enter the Indian after market tyre business in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. According to Jay Kunkel, President, Continental Asia and member of the automotive management board of Continental AG, the company is studying the Indian after market tyre business. It plans to import tyres from Europe and Malaysia and shall aim at the high end car tyre market in the country.

It also plans to invest another 55 million Euros in the country to boost its manufacturing capacity of its Bangalore plant. It currently has six manufacturing units and plans to start manufacturing tyres in India.
