Jaguar's new XE

For anyone that doubted Jaguar's intention to build a proper sports car in the vein of the legendary E-Type, this week we have a spy shot of the 2013 Jaguar XE; the British marque's new compact, two-seater sports car based on the XK model. It is set to compete against the Porsche 911, with this prototype riding on a shortened chassis and body of the XK.

The XE will be offered as both a coupé and cabriolet. Details are still sketchy but we expect it to be a two-seater and priced competitively with the 911. Given the long bonnet, it should sport a mid-front engine mounting and it's also expected to be fitted with a V6 in at least two configurations; one naturally aspirated and one supercharged with output levels expected to compete with Cayman and 911 models. We're getting a bit excited about this one.
