cars in 2011
Of the many new cars due to be launched next year, there are some that stand out for their ground-breaking design, performance or efficiency. And we're already getting excited about driving these special few.

To cover a broader spectrum of cars, we've listed our most anticipated cars of 2011 in various categories.

This includes a 4x4, small city car, sports car, family car - and something a bit special.

There will be plenty on offer in 2011 - here are the cars we already know about and can’t wait to get behind the wheel of.

1. Range Rover Evoque

Available: Late 2011

Price: estimated to start from £30k

The Evoque will be the smallest Range Rover available, coming in three and five-door form. The looks are ultra futuristic, and the premium image will make it a hugely desirable car.

2. Lotus Elise

Available: order book open

Price: From around £28,000

As well as more up-to-date and mature looks, the 2011 Elise has a new engine for 2011 – a 1.6-litre Valvematic Toyota engine instead of the 1.8 option available in the current model. The smaller engine produces the same 134bhp figure as the outgoing 1.8-litre petrol, but significantly lowers emissions, meaning cheaper car tax.

3. Gordon Murray’s T.25

Available: date to be confirmed

Price: to be confirmed

The T.25 is the brainchild of former Formula 1 and supercar designer Gordon Murray. It combines supremely compact dimensions with F1-derived safety technology - you can even change the interior layout to suit your needs. The 660cc powered car hasn’t been signed up to a manufacturer for production yet, but we really hope it makes it to showrooms in 2011.

4. Ford Focus

Available: March 2011

Price: from £16,000

One of the best-selling cars of all time in this country gets a dramatic overhaul for next year. The 2011 Ford Focus sports updated looks and a bunch of new features. Ford claims the drive has improved over the current model, which is already a class-leader. There's also going to be a hot hatch version, the Ford Focus ST, with a new 2.0-litre engine replacing the old 2.5-litre Volvo powerplant.

5. Audi Quattro Concept

Available: late 2011/early 2012

Price: to be confirmed

The Audi Quattro Concept is the German manufacturer’s gift to itself to celebrate its 100th birthday. It will feature the same 2.5-litre engine as the Audi TT RS – that means 402bhp and 0-62 in under four seconds. The rest of the Quattro will be based on the Audi RS5, but shortened and stiffened to give it supercar handling. Definitely a car worth watching develop more in 2011.
