2012 Range Rover Evoque

Although Land Rover has been teasing shoppers with its sporty Range Rover LRX concept for quite some time, the real deal wasn’t unveiled until this week, just before its appearance at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Known as the Evoque, Autoblog reports that it “is lighter, meaner and greener than anything to come from the Range Rover arsenal.”

In a company-issued press release, Land Rover says the Evoque will boast a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder motor producing 240 horsepower. Between this motor and its light weight, this sets up the Evoque to be the Range Rover that gets the best gas mileage yet. However, “considering that thriftiest model sold in the U.S. currently is the Range Rover HSE with an EPA rating of 12 mpg city/18 highway, that’s not saying much,” writes Car and Driver.

With MINI’s upcoming Countryman making its way to showrooms in 2011, KickingTires thought the Evoque would be a perfect competitor. That was until “we found out that the Evoque will start around $45,000 when it goes on sale,” writes KickingTires.

Buyers will have the choice of three trim levels. Car and Driver explains that the Evoque will come as, “the base Pure, the luxury-dripping Prestige, and sportier Dynamic, which gets unique wheels and fascias.”

Expect the 2012 Range Rover Evoque to hit showrooms by fall 2011.
