Mini cars were not the priority of Opel until Nick Reilly took charge as chief executive of the German car brand. His primary objective was to add smaller cars to the Opel range.

It is reported that Opel's new concept car, based on the Trixx concept which was unveiled in 2004, will be presented at the Paris Motor Show this September.

Sources say that the ultra-compact Opel will contend against the Ford Ka, MINI Cooper and the upcoming Volkswagen Up.

What Reilly believes is that the demand for smaller vehicles will increase significantly in the future, so Opel need to launch a model of their own that can compete as soon as possible.

The new ultra compact Opel is expected to go on sale in 2012.
