Sigma Vibracoustic have announced that they will showcase their advanced air suspensions for trucks and buses as well as hydraulic mounts for cars at the upcoming Auto Expo beginning 5th of January.

The company is a joint venture between Vibracoustic from Germany and Sigma Corporation India. The Indo German maufacturer aims to introduce air spring suspension technology for commercial vehicles like buses and trucks. The mechanical static springs are replaced by a dynamic suspension using air filled rubber bellows that provide active shock absorption and at the same time providing easy entry and exit into the vehicle. Sigma vibracoustic claim the air springs can help save fuel by lowering the vehicle at high speeds and also adjust the height in case of commercial vehicles to suit road conditions. The company currently supplies its hydraulic mounts to global OEM companies. Here is the original press release:

SIGMA VIBRACOUSTIC TO SHOWCASE IT’S ADVANCED AIRSPRING TECHNOLOGY FOR HEAVY COMMERCIAL VEHICLES AND HYDRAULIC MOUNTS FOR HIGHEND CARS AT DELHI AUTO EXPO FOR THE FIRST TIME

New Delhi--Sigma Vibracoustic India Limited (SVIL), a 50:50 joint venture between Vibracoustic of Germany [ part of the Freudenberg Group ] and Sigma (India) Corporation will showcase its advanced Air Suspensions for trucks and buses and hydraulic mounts for highend cars for the first time in the country during the forthcoming Tenth edition of the Delhi Auto Expo to begin in capital from January 5, 2010. Theme of the Sigma pavilion is “Modernizing India’s road transport”

Sigma Vibracoustic, a company specializing in vibration control technology for vehicles plans to introduce it’s innovative airspring suspension technology for commercial vehicles including trucks and buses for the first time in the country. The technology involves replacing mechanical static springs with a dynamic suspension using air filled rubber bellows that provide an active shock absorption (softer or harder depending on terrain) and results in enhanced passenger comfort, easy entry/ exit into the vehicle (in case of low floor buses), lower maintenance cost and better noise, vibration and harshness control in the vehicle.

“The state of the art Air Suspensions have been designed keeping in mind the Indian rugged road conditions. Apart from compensating lateral forces, Vibracoustic airsprings, applied in cars, can realize fuel savings by lowering the vehicle at high speeds (reducing wind resistance surface and drag coefficient enabling up to 5% fuel saving), and in case of CVs, adjustment of vehicle height to suit road conditions and increase driving safety (roll) and passenger comfort” said Mr J.D. Singh, Chairman of the Sigma Group.

“In India most of the trucks or cars are currently using conventional leaf spring suspension technology, which are less safe and durable and are unable to react according to the highly diversified load conditions as compared to latest active air suspension technology, which provides best combination of safe and comfortable driving as well as help preserve the vehicle as well as the road surface” Mr Singh said.

“Sigma Vibracoustic Air suspension offers various intelligent options including adjustment of vehicle height to road conditions or, last but not least, driving comfort through minimized vibrations and shocks. It is currently being used in low floor buses and special purpose trucks and buses in the country. Company plans to target OEM’s and after sales markets in India. Major CV manufacturers-including Tata Motors have already shown keen interest in the product and discussing business opportunities” Mr. Singh said.

Sigma Vibracoustic will also be showcasing its Hydraulic mounts which are currently supplied to global OEM companies. Domestic car companies are also showing interest in hydraulic mounts for their new range of cars. These products typically used in high end cars will now be available to domestic customers. Sigma Vibracoustic makes engine and transmission mounts and chassis bushings and caters to customers including Daimler, VW, GM, Maruti-Suzuki, Tata Motors, Ford, GM, M&M and Ashok Leyland. It also supplies anti-vibration components to the popular Nano platform.”
