Renault Nissan Automobile India car plans



Renault Nissan Automobile India, the JV between Japanese Nissan Motor Co. and French Renault is keen to begin their compact car production in May this year.

Results of the first production trial were great with 30 units and the cars will start rolling out soon. Trial production of their power train is on too.

They have 97 vendors now and local content for the upcoming vehicle stands at 85%. Staffed at 1000 as of now, the company looks at an increased workforce of 1500 by May 2010.

The company’s JV with Ashok Leyland to make LCVs is being discussed regarding which platform they’ll zero in on. By year-end, they’ll also be exporting vehicles manufactured in India.

At present, Nissan Motors have 23 dealers in India. Expansion targets are 30 for this year and 55 by 2012.
