Mercedes sticks with the classic fabric soft top for its new midsize convertible, avoiding the extra weight luxury competitors like BMW, Lexus and Infiniti picked up when they switched to retractable hardtops.
The top can be opened or closed in about 20 seconds and at speeds up to 25 m.p.h. The trunk offers an excellent 17 cubic feet of luggage room when the top is closed and 13.8 cubic feet with the roof open.
Power comes from a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 or 382-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 linked to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Power-deployed wind deflectors above the windscreen and between the rear seats reduce wind noise and turbulence at high speeds.
