Nissan chose Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium to show off its new electric car, the Leaf, that the Los Angeles Times says is likely to be priced from $25,000 to $33,000 when it goes on sale late next year.

"This is not a golf car, it's a real car," Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn told the crowd. The Leaf, with motors equal to a 100-horsepower gas engine, can be recharged to 80% capacity in a half hour, of fully overnight. The five-passenger sedan can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 10 seconds.

Nissan is also trying to set up public charging stations in some cities. He says electric cars will account for up to 10% of all car sales by 2020. Leaf may need them as Nissan sets it out on a national tour to 22 cities in 11 states. It starts with several places in Southern California and winds up in New York on Valentine's Day next year.
