Rolls-Royce Releases Specs on Upcoming Ghost
CHICHESTER, England — Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has released numbers on the upcoming Ghost, which will make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.
The Ghost will have a new 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine making 563 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Top speed will be limited to 155 mph, with a 0-60-mph time of 4.7 seconds (4.8 in North America, the company notes).
The numbers, of course, are only part of the story of a new Rolls-Royce. In the words of Director of Engineering Helmut Riedl, the Ghost "has been engineered for effortless composure and refined power delivery...illustrated by the significant levels of low-down torque available" to provide "an exceptionally relaxed driving experience."
Customers in the U.K. and Europe will get their Ghosts by year's end, the company says. U.S. and Asia Pacific buyers will begin to take delivery next spring. The Ghost will sell for the equivalent of $270,825 plus tax and delivery.
Inside Line says: The world's sybarites and high-luxury appreciators will be paying close attention to this model's debut.
