Although this crossover shares a platform with the 2010 Cadillac SRX , we think the 9-4X successfully maintains its Saab identity, and doesn’t seem to stray too far from the concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit in 2008.

The 9-4X, which will replace the larger, recently-deceased 9-7X, will be available with gasoline and diesel engines. It will also feature Saab’s XWD all-wheel drive system (hence the ‘X’). Expect the 9-4X to begin production in 2010.

It seems like we have seen this 9-4X prototypes forever, but now it’s soon time for a release we think. That’s why this 9-4X prototype is almost uncamouflaged, except for the fake lamps and some black tape. Could it be that SAAB will show it together with the 9-3X at the Geneva Car Show?

This new SAAB crossover, will share a lot of parts with the upcoming Cadillac SRX, but according to our sources, all parts that are shared will not be visible from the outside. SAAB wants this to have the SAAB-look. If they succeed in that, well, I guess it’s up to you to decide.

What we know is that it will be available with both diesel and petrol engines, and later on maybe even as a hybrid. Rumors are also talking about a two-wheel drive version for lower CO2, but we guess that most customers still want the four-wheel drive version.
