Reports emanating from West Bengal indicate that the Singur impasse has finally come to an end with Tata Motors [Get Quote] agreeing to give land from within the premises to the protesting farmers.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee had initially asked for 400 acres of land from the prestigious Nano project.

After three days of intensive parleys with the Left Front government at the Raj Bhavan, mediated by Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Mamata on Sunday had announced that the state government had agreed to give 300 acres of land from within the Tata premises and 100 acres from somewhere nearby.

Tata officials met the state government Monday morning. The Tatas, however, have yet to come out with a statement on the issue.
