Nano has passed its first road tests even if Ratan Tata does not plan to roll it out from the Singur plant. The most popular Rs. 1 Lakh car is officially acclaimed to be roadworthy for the Indian tarmac.

Automotive Research Association of India or ARAI successfully 'homologated' Tata Nano and approved for sale in the Indian market. The new model shall be launched with a rear mounted, fuel efficient 623cc engine that generates 33bhp. Unconfirmed reports also claimed that Nano reported a fuel efficiency of 24kmpl during the ARAI tests. It already complies with Euro IV emission norms that shall be implemented in India in 2010.

Tata Motors has been facing tough times with Nano ever since it was launched at the Delhi Auto Expo 2008. Rising interest rates, steel and rubber prices, and escalating inflation has given everything to Tata except some good news. Violent protests at Singur plant in West Bengal led by TRinamool Congress leader, Mamta Banerjee, were the final blow. However, Ratan Tata emerges as a leader out of all the odds as he still refuses to start operations at the plant until favourable deal is struck between the protestors, government and the company.
